lil lord fauntleroy

Just writing that post title has me a fit of giggles. Heaven knows what or who on earth lil lord Fauntleroy is, but Romance was Born must think very highly of him to name their Autumn/winter collection after him.

Actually, Fauntleroy (the dictionary states) is a excessively well mannered or elaborately well dressed young boy. Who knew! Suddenly things are making a bit more sense.

Usually I am turned off by overly flouncy, frilly, vintage-inspired prints, lace trim, doily-esque motifs and all things girl, but I find myself strangely excited by this collection of mish-mashed grandma garments. The dog-on-dog print is really too cool, and the almost sassy twist on high-tea attire has me smiling rather than grimacing. 

Having said this, Romance was Born always bring an element of humour and wit to their collections, so I shouldn't be surprised at all.

I love how the wide-legged Japanese inspired pants have contrasting prints front and back, and the way that frilly clutch emerges from behind the dress, as if it is an extension of the garment itself. The colours are more aggressive than passive and this prints so outrageously over the top.

I'm still unsure as to where I stand on this collection. It goes against every morself of my minimalist taste, yet satisfies a certain yearning to be ever unpredictable. It could be love, it could be hate, either way I am a little in awe.

floral vomit

people are talking.

yes, they are raving and ranting.

they are not discussing how 'happenin' and cool colour blocking is (because that is just lame), and they are not discussing the right and wrong way to wear neon, because there is only the wrong.

no, they are literally vomiting floral patterns at a rate which is beginning to threaten the lifespan of plain un-patterned fabrics. models are beginning to emulate floral couches from the 90s, and curtains from my grandma's house.

it should be no real surprise that I think this fashion of floral on floral bombardment is absolutely rad!

so, to prove my point i did some flicking on style.com and this is what i found. (please enjoy my googled couch also. i reckon its pri-tty bangin')

1. erdem spring 2012 – no one does floral like erdem. in fact until now, no one has actually done floral at all, apart from erdem that is, who do it EVERY season, without fail. who am i kidding, i dig their monochromatic (in a pattern sense) style. floral overloading is baben, and so are erdem.

2.stella mccartney resort 2012 – we've all been expecting this floral explosion from stella for a while now. at least ever since her graphic table-cloth floral print last season. and yes, its symmetrical and aligned and perfectly cut. everything you would expect from this tailoring master.

3. camilla and marc spring 2012 – nice to see some up-to-the-minute, fashion forward-ness from our aussie babes at camilla and marc.i am felling some romance was born vibes here....

4. céline resort 2012 –this is the extreme vomiting i was talking about. three-piece floral suit. hot, rad, baben, couch (couch is an adjective...)

Review-ettes from Rosemount Fashion week

Kirrily Johnson: I found this collection a little bit awkward to be honest. Everything from the not-quite-angular cut pieces from the stance of the models- who, i must say, look like they have been forced into rigid pieces of cardboard, and had their hair plastered to their eyelids- sound uncomfortable (yes!), look uncomfortable (yes!). Aside from this, I am digging the orange.

Romance was Born: bloody weird- to be honest. But oh, how I love a bit of kook. 'Would you like some zaniness with that quirk'. This collection is like a cosmic collision of Pocahontas meets princess layer/ mermaid princess who happen to bump into a psychedelic hippie from the 60s and R2D2 from Star Wars. Am I also noticing some Cleopatra influences?

Lover collection: am feeling a little bit lack luster after flicking through this collection. i feel as though it is almost hitting the mark i would like it to hit, but somehow is falling short. the sheet lace and strong red feels oh so right, but somehow the rather wishy-washy skirts and soft lines leaves me feeling...well rather un-satisfied.
