basics

I have decided that I need to re-invent my style, and re-jig the way I dress. A lot has changed over the last 8 months and I no longer want to dress in the same way as I used to. I want to dress in a classic, simple, no fuss way- concentrating on quality fabrics, simple silhouettes and comfortable, yet, sophisticated pieces. All this means investing (even though clothes are hardly an investment...) in items, which make me feel good and comfortable in my own skin. I don't want to show off my body, or draw attention to myself, other than to say I look effortlessly stylish (this would be the ultimate compliment).

Gone are my patterned pant days.

Anyway half of the items in this set are pieces I am seriously considering buying. In fact, check back in this time tomorrow, and I may just have purchased them (planning a shopping trip as we speak). These being the bag, dress and boots. The boots remind me a lot of these Acne numbers, which are kinda rad, but, I don't know, I think I actually like these a little better. Good thing too because they are a fraction of the price. The dress is very different to what I would normally wear. I have never delved into full length skirts before (I detest the word maxi) but think now may be the time to give them a try. Its lovely and comfortable too, which ticks some boxes. And, despite my continued searches, I have not found another black (affordable) bag, which I like better than this Status Anxiety one. Sure, I have found plenty of beautifully simple and elegant ones (which I love) but are so far out of my price range it is not even worth mentioning them. It do need another visit, however, before I completely make my mind up.

The other items in the set are just to fill the gaps really, but I am desperately in want of a VPL bra and how amazing is that Acne jacket- I die, I die, I die!

Clothing slash shopping aside, I have been riding a rather fun bircher fetish. So far I have sampled the goods at Monk Bodhi Dharma (probably my favourite haunt at the moment) and Top Paddock, both of which were seriously yum! I recommend them both! I have also started a new foodie job this week and am loving every moment of it! It feels so good to be working again.

brrrrrr

A cosy winter outfit- my seasonal muse.

I love the 'petrol blue' shade of this Acne knit, and it may be the injection of colour my drab winter wardrobe is desperately in need of.
A winter skirt is also on my to-buy list, and this little leather piece from Witchery is ticking all necessary boxes

back in black

Wow. I know! Where have I been??
Things have been a little unsettled, slash, gone a bit haywire for the last few months– hence my extended absence. But, alas, I am back.

The winter weather has struck Melbourne and I found myself rather unprepared for the cool temperatures. I have no current desire to splash my wardrobe with any colour whatsoever, instead all I want to wear is black, grey and navy. This season I am focusing even more on the concept of quality not quantity and plan to invest in a small number of good quality items that will last. So the emphasis is on simplicity and wearability.

Number one on my purchase list is a black leather bag. I visited this Status Anxiety one the other day and it was really lovely. My budget is not all that generous, so it would be a good (and dare I say, cheaper) option than the Chloé and Marc alternatives. I know I've done a post on black bags before, and I think my criteria is generally the same. It has to be simple, a good size, not too many zips and 'bling' and made from soft leather.

shopping list

My current shopping list...
I feel like I haven't been shopping in an eternity, and am definitely feeling a little rusty as a result. The internet is a sure source of shopping inspiration, however, and is helping my upwards climb from such my retail depression. Next step- venturing out of the house!

Film star

These babies just arrived on my doorstep...
Nothing like a new pair of shoes to act as an instant pick me up.

I'm going through a rather rough patch, and am actually posting this from my bed in hospital. Details aside, things are pretty tough but hopefully everything will be back on track (regular bogging included) soon. Xoxoxo

3. Alexander McQueen iphone sleeve and cuff

I want to dress in a way that is simple, yet classic, and elegant. I think there is really something to be said about, not only buying expensive clothing (this is really only the first step), but being able to wear them in a way that gives justice. I sigh out loud when I see expensive, beautiful garments worn in a way which, undermines their beauty. I cannot imagine how frustrating this is for the designer and I can only hope that they never see their clothes being worn in such a way.

I think there is also a way in which we can dress to look expensive, classy and elegant without spending extreme amounts of money. Dressing to suit our bodies is, in my opinion, the most important aspect. And not following trends for the sake of being "cool". You will always look and feel better if you instead concentrate on wearing things that suit you and reflect your personality.

So, having blabbed on a bit too much (feel free to gloss over my rambles), this is my dream outfit at the moment. I don't think I will ever tire of Balenciaga's derby boots, and Acne make the perfect denim jackets. Paired with a simple, clean cut Wang shirt dress and Comme des Garçon clutch (plus some sneaky phone and arm bling) I think this outfit is the image of sophistication and cool.
