lil lord fauntleroy

Just writing that post title has me a fit of giggles. Heaven knows what or who on earth lil lord Fauntleroy is, but Romance was Born must think very highly of him to name their Autumn/winter collection after him.
Actually, Fauntleroy (the dictionary states) is a excessively well mannered or elaborately well dressed young boy. Who knew! Suddenly things are making a bit more sense.

Usually I am turned off by overly flouncy, frilly, vintage-inspired prints, lace trim, doily-esque motifs and all things girl, but I find myself strangely excited by this collection of mish-mashed grandma garments. The dog-on-dog print is really too cool, and the almost sassy twist on high-tea attire has me smiling rather than grimacing.
Having said this, Romance was Born always bring an element of humour and wit to their collections, so I shouldn't be surprised at all.

I love how the wide-legged Japanese inspired pants have contrasting prints front and back, and the way that frilly clutch emerges from behind the dress, as if it is an extension of the garment itself. The colours are more aggressive than passive and this prints so outrageously over the top.

I'm still unsure as to where I stand on this collection. It goes against every morself of my minimalist taste, yet satisfies a certain yearning to be ever unpredictable. It could be love, it could be hate, either way I am a little in awe.

givenchy pre fall 2013

The culmination of cow print and leather usually has me thinking of dukes-of-hazard-esque cow girls and those mexican throws you find hanging on the backs of sofas and combi vans. However in Givenchy's pre-fall venture-of-sorts, raw cow hide is sophisticatedly prim.
The limited colour palate and geometric patterns makes for an edgy, masculine silhouetted collection. Paired with equally masculine brogues the looks steer almost too closely to a male's collection. I say almost because the subtle hints of feminism introduced by the high leg split skirts and suggestion of a waistline are really its saving grace.

I am really enthralled by this collection. It brings together everything I feel is relevant in modern dressing right now. Simple lines, limited colours and a hint of androgyny. Even the way the collection melds into night attire is exciting, made even more so by the ever-changing backdrop.

I know it is a bit of an image overload, but I seriously couldn't justifying leaving out any of the looks. It somehow ruins the story if you don't look at this collection in its entirity.

spring into action (i.e 2013)

i must admit i was not all that enthralled by the array of spring 2013 collections. despite my usual enthusiasm for fashion week's offerings, few designers had me feeling anything more than mild excitement.

alexander wang never fails to deliver, and the collection of laser cut, crisp white dresses and heady leatherwear was very much pleasing– albeit it rather expected, and a little lacking in refreshing juices (if you know what i mean).

stella mc cartney steered away from her previous vision of digital prints and floral explosions, presenting something all the more crisp and clean. the boxy silhouettes and lowered waist lines made for a rather masculine theme only to be challenged by the plunging v neck lines and dramatically split hemlines.

acne had me drawn in by the concept of layering loose fitting clothes with tailored, tighter pieces, and balenciaga's focus on box-like silohuette, and tissue-like skirts was also a source of inspiration.
